It also extends some of the material from the first edition, such as inter-operation with other technologies such as GSM, UMTS, wireless local area networks and cdma2000; additional features of LTE Advanced, notably heterogeneous networks and traffic offloading; data transport in the evolved packet core; coverage and capacity estimation for LTE; and a more rigorous treatment of modulation, demodulation and OFDMA. The author breaks down the system into logical blocks, by initially introducing the architecture of LTE, explaining the
techniques used for radio transmission and reception and the overall operation of the system, and concluding with more specialized topics such as LTE voice calls and the later releases of the specifications. This methodical approach enables readers to move on to tackle the specifications and the more advanced texts with confidence.

About the Author
Christopher Cox is a professional technical trainer and consultant in mobile telecommunications. He is an expert in the technical and radio network planning aspects of LTE and UMTS, and regularly delivers training courses about them to audiences drawn from equipment manufacturers, network operators and consultancies worldwide. He has a degree in Physics and a PhD in Radio Astronomy from the University of Cambridge and 20 years’ experience in scientific and technical consultancy, telecommunications and training.

Very Readable Book for a Non-Expert (no CPRI coverage)

I'm not an LTE expert, but write software that bumps up against LTE, so I was looking for a book with good explanations for someone that isn't already up to their eyeballs in LTE acronyms. This book fit the bill. It has significantly more detail that I need, but is still sufficiently readable for my use. I see it in the bookshelves of most of my coworkers, as well.
It must be a little bit dated (as are all four books I purchased, except for one), as I could find no references to recent developments, such as CPRI, in which I had a special interest. I found Kreher and Gaenger's "LTE Signalling: Troubleshooting and Performance Measurement", published in 2016, had quite a bit of CPRI-related coverage.

Comprehensive and easy read intro to LTE.

I only read the first chapter and browsed the rest. It covers most concepts of LTE and it seems to explain how protocols and methods work in enough detail for an engineer who has basic communications knowledge. There are a few charts would be better understandable with color use instead of grey scale.
