Good read

This was a great book that gave some great resources and information on intervention on a large scale. The tier 2 and 3 that were more focused on individualized attention were not what I was hoping for when I purchased the book. Basically, I was hoping for more creative interventions for individual students rather than the standard "interview" and find interests. However, the book is great, though provoking.... I am hoping more books a written on this issue.

More lucid than most Lafferty stories

Short and sweet: The story itself is a short and engaging piece. It is remarkable that it was free. Lafferty is a little hard to come by.

The Kindle Version was well done without all the wonky formatting problems that many other free Kindle books have. I really enjoyed this and its free!

My first R.A. Lafferty experience

It's late and I'm tired so I'll be brief.

I had never heard of R.A. Lafferty's work until by chance, I read an old interview of Steely Dan's Donald Fagen. Anyone familiar with him knows he has a pension for being cryptic and satirically witty in interviews. Fagen didn't directly mention Lafferty by name, but mentioned using the Ktistek machine, a subject of Lafferty's book "Arrive At Easterwine." In my quest to find out what this "Ktistek" machine was, I found Lafferty.

Curious about Easterwine, I did some research. I found out that it was a very difficult read, requiring some to reread, just to get a grasp of the complex use of metaphor Lafferty uses in the book. Some readers gave up trying to understand it entirely! Not wanting to order and wait for a printed book, or diving into something that would require Cliff's Notes to understand, I decided to get my feet wet with this free eBook of Lafferty's, The Six Fingers of Time.

It was a most enjoyable short read, as I read it in about an hour (or one minute, if I possessed the power that protagonist Charles Vincent had)! Lafferty's descriptions of time slowed to a crawl were vivid and colorful, humorous and creepy. He definitely has a most unorthodox prose, unlike anyone I have ever read. You have to pay attention during dialog between characters. They can blur a bit, and the characters speak in a way that isn't particularly conversational. In such a short book, Lafferty creates a very deep landscape about the nature of time and eternity.

If you are unfamiliar with R.A. Lafferty, I would recommend getting this book. You can read it in the time it would take you to eat lunch. It's an easy read, and you can't beat the price!

Susan Phillips is Professor and Director of the School of Public Policy and Administration, Carleton University.�She is a Visiting Fellow at Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge, conducting research on women in leadership in the third sector.�She is also a Visiting Fellow�at the Centre for Charitable Giving and Philanthropy, Cass Business School, City University, where she is working on regulation of the sector.

Steven Rathgeb Smith is Professor and the Waldemar A. Nielsen Chair in Philanthropy at the Public Policy Institute at Georgetown University. Dr. Smith was the editor of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly (NVSQ), the journal of the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA) from 1998-2004. His current research focuses on the citizen engagement and advocacy roles of nonprofit organizations, the evolving position of nonprofit social welfare organizations within the welfare state in Europe and the US, and the regional variation in foundations in the US.

Excellent compendium on the creatures and plants from the Harry Potter movies

Right after I bought Page to Screen, I discovered there was a collector's edition that included several other books. I did not get the collector's edition since I already have the main book, but I've always longed to see those additional books.

Harry Potter: The Creature Vault is actually the expanded version of the The Creature Shop Compendium book that is part of Harry Potter Page to Screen Collector's Edition.

This new edition has a makeover and now sports a purple coloured embossed cover. The page count has increased to 208. It's a beautiful looking compendium.

This book looks at all the creatures and magical plants that have appeared in the movie series. It's packed with creature designs, concept art, film stills and photos from behind the scenes which shows how the crew build the animatronics, maquettes, sculptures and life-size models such as the Basilisk or the dragons.

Concept art for the creatures comes in the form of sketches, watercolours and digital paintings. Bulk of the book consists the artworks with accompanying text. A few pictures were reused from Page to Screen but not a big issue.

There's a huge bunch of creatures and plants featured. All are given ample coverage in terms of art and text. Author Jody Revenson has provided an insightful writeup that talks about their designs for the movies, the story component and interesting details such as the technical parts on how the creatures were created, be it in computer or real life. I believe it will be a satisfying read for any Harry Potter fan, especially those who craves for details.

The book description mentioned there's an Eeylops Owl Emporium. That's actually a small 8-page booklet sticked to the main pages showing photos of several owls. The other extra goodie is an A3 size one page bestiary poster with 16 selected creatures.

One last thing to note is there are two publishers for this book. It seems that publisher Harper Design is distributing for USA and Canada, and Titan Books are distributing for UK, Europe and other regions. So depending on where you are and from which publisher you buy from, the book's price might vary slightly. I find that Titan Books sell it cheaper, and for overseas buyers, it's more worth it to get the book from Book Depository.

I really enjoyed going through all the information and looking at the beautiful concept art. This is yet another excellent companion to the movies.

A Very 'Tight' Vault

The 'Harry Potter: The Creature Vault'; 'The Creatures and Plants of the Harry Potter Films' by Insight Editions and published by Harper Design clocks in at 208 pages. This purple, slightly embossed book (no ribbon) is a wonderful addition to your 'Harry Potter Page to Screen: The Complete Filmmaking Journey Collector's Edition' collection and is quite reminiscent to the look and feel of 'A Guide to the Graphic Arts Department' (minus the orange). This thoroughly expanded book contains a new introduction, fully fledged descriptions, two to four times the amount of pictures per creature/plant, and what makes this special is that a majority of the pictures are new to this volume ... so minus the concept and organization, it is entirely new. As a bonus, the book comes with a small Eeylops Owl Emporium pamphlet and a pull-out Bestiary Poster of 16 creatures.

Jody Revenson's faux-leather, green, embossed bound book 'The Creature Shop Compendium: Flora and Fauna From the Harry Potter Films' (based off of the movie) is getting a brand new, fully comprehensive and larger-sized release on 10/28/2014; the book is newly bounded with a purple cover (the two will look great next to each other on the shelf!!) .. the new book is titled 'Harry Potter: The Creature Vault: The Creatures and Plants of the Harry Potter Films'. The new release will come with a removable poster and an interactive Eeylops Owl Emporium catalog.

Harry Potter: The Book of Magical Places
Jody Revenson's cloth covered 'Environments Envisioned: Building Fantastic Sets and Scouting Dramatic Locations' book (based off of the movie) is getting a brand new, fully comprehensive and larger-sized release on 05/05/2015 and titled "Harry Potter: The Book of Magical Places"; extras have not been listed at this time.

This book is an Expanded reprinting of The Creature Vault book previously only available in the limited edition and tre expensive book set; Page to Screen Collectors Edition.

Embossed paper boards with a design meant to simulate fabric covered cover boards, accented with metallic gold - Emulating the previous limited edition. Very nicely done.

A few images are revisits from the Page to Screen tome, 90 percent of the images are exclusive to this volume.

Many many images through out, Full page, half page, quarter page and all.

Very complete use of the page layouts as every creature in the Potter universe is explored and given its fair share of page time; With the majority given multiple pages of insightful text and development art, both two dimensional and sculpted work.

All artwork is given it's proper attribution to the artist behind the work is most cases (WETA books does the best at resolving this, giving each artwork shown the initials of the artist and a decoder key).
