This poet lived a short life, only 34 years yet she showed a maturity of an ancient soul. She wrote in the tradition of animal parables like Aesop's Fables complete with morals only in poetry..."The Ant and the Elephant," "The Nightingale and the Rose," "The Fox and The Hen."

In this way she could escape censure as she alluded to the political corruption, the disparity between the rich and the poor and the repession of women in the Iran of her day but her poetry also speaks to truths that go beyond nationality and borders to universal experiences of humanity everywhere and in every time. Her poetry is filled with a great awareness of the difficulty of life, the ironies, the pain, the unrequited, the virtues of humility, a certain sadness. "What is the use of straight talk to crooked characters"," The mine of passion contains only rocks whose color and glitter are but deceit and fraud", "Poverty alone diverts us from the straight and narrow, whereas a demon guides the judge through every crooked lane." Heaven will not be affected by our life or death, It is stony-hearted; that is no secret." She is not afraid to tackle the institutions nor the refuge of religion.

She speaks in parables about political corruption, about poverty, about human nature and greed and about what expectations are realistic in life. She speaks of little children orphaned at an early age, old widows inheriting a life of poverty, she speaks of the irony of a hunter shooting a bird, whose children then starve to death. Her writing is not maudlin though and she is self depracating as well, recognizing her own short-comings and worship of false idols.

Her father was the publisher of a literary magazine named "Bahar" (Spring)in Tabriz and she had her first poetry was published in it at the age of 8. She was a child prodegy and her verse was in the Classical style. Her father arranged for her to do poetry readings at age 14 in literary circles. In fact she is considered the greatest contemporary woman poet in the classical style. Little known outside Iran her legacy deserves recognition in the West. I highly recommend this book of poetry for anyone interested in early feminist writing.

Wonderful fantastic story!

these books just get better and better. They can stand alone or you can just start with book 1 and just keep going! They weave a very exciting adventure, warming your heart in the tender romance. So well written and enjoyable to sit back and curl up with. Lacy is a very talented author.
This is a sweet clean romance a feel good happy ever after story, just like the fairy tale. You will not be disappointed I promise! :)

About the Author

Bruce M. Rowe is a professor of anthropology at Los Angeles Pierce College, where he has taught since 1970. He designed the college’s first linguistics course for students majoring or minoring in linguistics, anthropology, education, English, Interpreting for the Deaf, and communications studies, and for those fulfilling a general education requirement. Professor Rowe also teaches physical and cultural anthropology as well as sociology. In addition to A Concise Introduction to Linguistics, he has co-authored ten editions of Physical Anthropology, two editions of Physical Anthropology: The Core, and physical anthropology study guides and workbooks (all with Philip L. Stein). Professor Rowe has authored four editions of The College Survival Guide: Hints and References to Aid College Students and The College Awareness Guide: What Students Need to Know to Succeed in College. He has received numerous awards for teaching. He is a fellow of the American Anthropological Association and a member of the American Association of Physical Anthropologists and the Society for Anthropology in Community Colleges.

Diane P. Levine is a professor of anthropology at Los Angeles Pierce College, where she teaches cultural and physical anthropology, as well as linguistics. She is the chair of the Department of Anthropological and Geographical Sciences As a former teacher of English and ESL, she has written articles on the use of literature in the ESL classroom and presented seminars on critical thinking in the language arts classroom. Professor Levine is on the advisory boards for Annual Editions: Anthropology and is also a national advisor for the film series Cultural Anthropology: Our Diverse World. She is a member of the American Anthropological Association and the Society for Anthropology in Community Colleges.

Horrible, not concise, way to in depth to be an introduction

Watching videos of the author trying to speak coherently makes me understand why it is so badly put together. Introduction of multiple terms are made with no attempt to define or give examples. Authors assume instantaneous understanding of phonetic symbols and immediately use only phonetic spelling without the normal spelling. More confusing then anything, it is an introduction of how dry and boring linguistics can be. If you have a choice between linguistics instructors and one is using this book go with the other instructor!

This book, required for my introduction to linguistics class, is accessible and straightforward. It nicely overviews several linguistic areas. Each chapter builds off of each other with enough overlap to not feel confused or overwhelmed. I was disappointed in the Sign Language Chapter. I found it brief and oversimplified. But beyond that I have no complaints.

about as wild as grass growing

This book was a real disappointment. Pages and pages of how terrible her life was, and no zip or excitement. I hated Valentina's Rules. But this book is worse it is so deathly dull. Try something like The Captivation by Rostova, or any books by Savannah Smythe if you want to see hot stuff with real variety ahd characters you care about, not cardboard cutouts.

The operative word here is country !

OK Black Lace is erotica by women for women .... so the fact that I as a man may not really have thought the book to be a sizzler, or hot Victorian or kinky should not reflect itself in my review....
Actually it's a wonderfull girly type of story where our young heroine, after being canned for not putting out to the head chef at the school was surprised by a substantial monitary inheritance from her aunt who had brought her up in the country.
Included with this of course was her aunts home where she grew up as a young girl.
While at school our heronie managed to prepare 'old English Country' dishes that were a smashing success but required venison, wild pheasant, mushrooms and some herbs that grew wild, but only near the area in which she grew up. Her neighbours were some upper class stuffies with games keeprs and hunting bllod and it seems like they were dedicated to keeping poachers off their property ..... which of course is our young herione now trying to get the epecial ingredients for her new business.....
... [T]he author takes us on long and detailed strolls through the English countryside .... So in my mind erotica there really isn't but I think if someone likes Harelquin type romance novels where the herione really gets it ... then this book does rate 5 stars ....
If you are however looking for erotica with a story then skip it ... OK

Good, but not so very wild

I really enjoyed reading this book, but it struck me more as comedy than erotica. It is well written, with a wry, lively humour, but while the sex scenes are cute, they're neither as frequent nor as hard as I've come to expect from Black Lace. 5 stars as a read, 3 stars as erotica.
