Welcome to the Dr Raju's world of Memory tricks that introduce proven techniques into vocabulary learning experience. Learning vocabulary does not have to be complicated or boring. This methodology is based on over 10 years of practical research on vocabulary acquisition, retention and usage.
Vocabulary Memory tricks, are designed for anyone wishing to build a stronger vocabulary. However, they are particularly recommended for students studying for Pre-Scholastic Aptitude test (PSAT), Scholastic Aptitude test (SAT), ACT and Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and CAT (IIM-INDIA). Remember that approximately 90 % of university courses require reading comprehension. And to be good reader you must have an extensive vocabulary.

THE MEMORY TRICK METHOD:

The first step in using this method is to find a key word for the word you are trying to learn.

For example, let’s say you’re trying to learn the word ASSUAGE. A good key word for the word ASSUAGE is MASSAGE because it follows two rules.

1.The word either sounds acoustically similar or looks similar to the target word.
2.The word is common or familiar to the learner, which makes it easier to draw or visualize.

ASSUAGE (v): uh SWAYJ
Sooth, make less severe;

Memory Trick: ASSUAGE-MASSAGE

The MASSAGE ASSUAGED and relieved my pain.

Sample Sentence: “Refreshing winds assuage the summer's heat."

The second step is to connect the key word to the target definition. More simply, we need to link the word massage to “make less severe or sooth.”

When it comes to doing well on the GRE, one simple fact stands out: you must have good vocabulary. Unfortunately, however, many students don't have a good knowledge of the advanced words that appear on the GRE.

If you are one of these students, you've found the right book. "Dr Raju's Memory Trick Based Vocabulary," will teach you the words you need to know, quickly and efficiently. And it will really teach you the words not just acquaint you with them, which is what most vocabulary books do. This is because it uses a totally new method-Memory Tricks-that is guaranteed to fix each word and it's meaning permanently in your memory. After you've learned the words in the book, you won't forget them. You'll have a solid base of advanced, University level vocabulary that you will be able to rely on to get score on the GRE.

HOW TO USE THIS BOOK :

Each word consists of four elements.
1.The main word: the word you wish to learn. It is followed by phonetic pronunciation and a definition.
Example: AESTHETIC (es THET ik) , Concerned with beauty ; artistic
2.The memory trick: the memory trick is a simple word or words which rhyme or sound like the main word.
Example: ATHLETIC
3.The link: The link connects the main word and the memory trick in a sentence.
Example: ATHLETIC body appears AESTHETIC

4.Sample Sentence : Geetha molded the lump of clay into an aesthetically pleasing masterpiece

1.Synonym Memory Tricks: The meaning of the memory trick that is familiar to the reader is similar to the target word.

IRASCIBLE (adj): i RAS uh bul
Hot-tempered; irritable.

Memory trick: IRASCIBLE-IRRITABLE

IRASCIBLE person is usually IRRITABLE

2.Antonyms memory tricks: The meaning of the memory trick that is familiar to the reader is opposite to the target word.
Example 1:
CRAVEN (adj): KRAY vuhn
fearful, cowardly;dastard

Memory trick: CRAVEN- BRAVE +N

CRAVEN and BRAVE are antonyms.

very helpful book

One of the best word power book that I have come across for my preparations for SAT and CAT is Word Wizard by Dr.Raju. This author has a great experience in giving the right amount of dose that one needs for attempting these tests. Apart from the regular pronunciations, meanings, grammar and sample sentences for each given word, the memory check exercises- especially improves the learning process where one could instantly recall the given memory point or trick. They are as simple as similar sounding and meaning, like "dusty tooth" or "dusty" for the word "destitute"- for poor. Or as funny and true like "ideas+ crazy" for "idiosyncrasy" meaning weird personality! How can you ever forget these? Such memory shots simply made, my own, training to be of an "A-One-Grade" course, I mean avant-garde!

Mnemonics made me learn vocabulary very much easier.

I have booked my GRE test date in the month of November. I started preparing for GRE verbal just few days back. As a non-native speaker of the language my main weakness is lack of high level vocabulary. Since I bought this book the other day, I have already learnt 1000 words.I think in another 10 days or so I will consume all the 2000 words in my brain using these memory tricks. At this juncture I don't have enough time to learn the vocabulary using the classical approach like root based methodology. The only way for me to remember large word-list is by using the mnemonics. It suffices my requirement and I am pretty happy with the progress.

I have successfully attempted my GRE recently. I took great pleasure in answer the paper as I hit all the given words like a table tennis ball that came bouncing at me.
